Some background information:

In addition to the general musical impact of SLAYER, the guitar duo King / Hanneman in particular caused numerous eargasms with their whimpering solos and feedback orgies and the desire to produce such noise by myself. Over time, as a musician and for my songwriting, I gained some other crucial influences from the field of extreme metal, but the Kerry/Jeff lead guitar style is still an integral part of my guitarist DNA and therefore also in DAWN OF ANGER.

In honor of this guitar duo and SLAYER's work, I have now ventured into one of their songs for the first time with DAWN OF ANGER, in keeping with the fourth "Slayer Memorial Day"!
That couldn't work, some people will say, they can do that too, but I'll put it out there anyway!

The choice wasn't one of my personal favorites, "Piece by Piece" or "Jesus Saves", but rather the first track that Slayer ever released, namely "Aggressive Perfector".
A common child, in terms of music and lyrics, by Jeff Hanneman & Kerry King.
This track was released in July 1983 on the legendary Metal Massacre III sampler by Metal Blade icon Brian Slagel, then later appeared on the debut "Show No Mercy" (Metal Blade/Banzai Records/Roadrunner Records). In February 1986 re-recorded at the end of the "Reign In Blood" recording sessions. This version was part of the 3-track maxi "Postmortem", was the song on the B-side of the rare 7-series single "Criminally Insane", as well as a bonus track on some "Reign In Blood" versions (all Def Jam Recordings),October 1986.
For the DoA cover version I also based myself on the 1986 version of this track. The riffs are the same, but have a slightly different character due to the deeper tuning. Instead of the Dis tuning (a semitone lower), the guitars in DoA are seven semitones deep in hell and give all the children's melodies a "gloomy" tone color. When playing the originals, guitarists will have noticed how similar the finger patterns are to well-known Kill'em All tracks. The snare beat were doubled in some parts to achieve the typical blast beat. When singing, the two verses are grunted in my classic death metal style, which also sticks, more or less, to the phrasing that Tom used. But the first chorus breaks out and there's chirping across bars with my obi-like warble, in the second chorus diabolical forces take over the chanting and I deleted the third repetition of the chorus. There is an “Aggressive Perfector” exclamation twice in the song. The first solo section is a little shortened to give the staccato rhythm guitars that underlie this part a little more room. In the middle section, a style-breaking harpsichord sounds, a little musical twist that I was able to implement thanks to my musician colleague Karl-Konrad Metzger.
